My Blog

Without fail, every Tuesday evening after 5pm, I have a craving for Mexican. Maybe I’ve been conditioned over the years from Taco Tuesday Happy Hours with friends but I don’t think i’ll ever be able to kick this habit. Tuesday happens to be one of the busiest days of the week for me so at the end of the day, I think I deserve the luxury of comfort food and good friends around my dinner table! I will use any excuse to throw a party or get people together and this Tuesday I wanted to try something different. Now don’t get me wrong, I live for an authentic Mexican street taco but I do also love tamales. These are cornmeal patties that have been stuffed with saucy beef, chicken or even pork that were simmered in Mexican chilies and spices then wrapped in a corn husk and steamed. It is out of this world delicious…. and quite addictive. And just like tacos, the toppings are what makes this dish sing.

To throw this impromptu Tamales Tuesday party together was easy as heating up frozen Tamales from Trader Joe’s {Listen…. I’m not in California or Texas right now so it’s impossible to get them fresh on the drop of a dime, so please don’t judge! By the way… Trader Joe’s version is unbelievably good!} and placing toppings such as chopped jalapenos, cilantro, red onions, different salsas, guacamole, sour cream, and limes in little bowls and having lots of crunchy tortilla chips on hand!

Ohhh…. and don’t forget the Taquila!
