Let’s be honest here for a moment….. are you one of those people who stalk Pinterest for great closet inspiration? And do you have a board dedicated to your dream closet? Yeah… I thought so! Well, you’re not alone because I am guilty as charged!!! If you don’t know by now, I am practically obsessed with keeping things organized as well as looking pretty and having a glorious closet filled with all of my prized possessions on display just makes me happy at the end of the day. The truth is, you can easily create your perfect closet right now and all it takes is a little planning and organization. But first, let’s talk about closet basics!
Illustrated below is the anatomy of a basic closet. As outlined, you can see that there are designated areas for particular pieces of your wardrobe. This layout will help you to define and organize your closet in such a way that getting dressed will become a pure pleasure!
Here are 5 tips to help you organize your closet like a Pro!
Clean out your closet and start sorting all of your clothes and accessories. Using the illustration above as a reference, group together all of your tops, shirts and blazers in one pile, then move onto gathering all of your dresses, coats etc.
Start hanging the items you just sorted out! Hang all the tops together, all your dresses and coats together etc. Each grouping should have its own designated area in your closet.
3. COLOR CODING
Once you’ve hung all of your clothes, start coordinating them by color. I Like to start with whites on one end and work my way down to all the darks such as navy and black. Color coordinating helps you to visualize your clothing better and allows you to actually find what you’re looking for!
When it comes to your sweaters, t-shirts, jeans, shorts, athletic wear etc, you’ll want to fold them! Again, I would suggest color coordinating and stacking all the like colors together. This will help to create an overall clean and organized look for your closet.
5. SHOES & ACCESSORIES
Neatly arrange shoes, handbags and accessories on shelves or a bookcase. If you don’t have shelves, simply line them on the floor of your closet and don’t forget to color code!!!
